Cairn is a personal awareness app for iOS and watchOS. Everything you capture in Cairn stays on your own device and in your own iCloud account. We do not run any backend of our own. We do not collect, receive, transmit, sell, share, or have access to your data.

What Cairn stores

When you use Cairn, the app stores the following on your device:

That is the entire dataset. Cairn does not record your location, your contacts, your photos, your microphone, your usage analytics, or any other information.

Where your data goes

If you are signed in to iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled, Cairn syncs your moments across your own Apple devices using Apple's CloudKit service. This sync is entirely between your devices and Apple's servers — no third party (including us) is involved, and we have no ability to read or modify what is synced.

If you are not signed in to iCloud, your moments live only on the device where you captured them and are not synced anywhere.

Apple's handling of the data it syncs on your behalf is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Analytics and tracking

Cairn contains no analytics SDKs, no crash reporting SDKs, no advertising SDKs, no tracking pixels, and no third-party services of any kind. The app does not send network requests to any servers we operate, because we do not operate any.

Apple's App Store may collect its own aggregate metrics about downloads and crashes; that data is Apple's, not ours, and is covered by Apple's policies.

Deleting your data

You can delete individual moments from within the app. You can delete all of your Cairn data at any time by deleting the app from your device and, if you use iCloud sync, by removing Cairn's data from iCloud in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage.

Because we do not receive or store any of your data on our own servers, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.

Children

Cairn is a general-audience app and does not knowingly collect data from children. Because we do not collect data from anyone, this is a byproduct of the app's architecture rather than a separate policy.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for material changes, note them here.
